Personal Care Products - by Tamera

I was interested in this product because I liked the idea of a zero waste period. I did some research on the ingredients in pads and tampons and how they negatively effect the body and I was horrified. I realized a menstrual cup was the best option.  I picked the Diva Cup because this brand is the easiest to find, it is located in many natural health food stores. It took me about 3 cycles to figure out how to insert and take out properly, and it was worth it!  What I love about the cup is that if I am expecting my period, but I know I will be out and about all of that day, I can simply put it in and check it later. This is so much easier than packing tampons, putting a liner on and getting ready to rush off to the bathroom when it comes! Another great thing about it; it doesn’t dry you out… tampons are so painful when you pull them out when they are too dry, they can also leave behind pieces of cotton and scratch up your insides.  Another great thing about the cup, is that my cramps are a lot less intense, I think this is because silicone is bio-compatible with the body - unlike tampons where the most sensitive part of my body is being exposed to materials that it shouldn't be exposed to.

Learning how to use the cup when you are a virgin can be a little tricky.  The best way for me to get comfortable with inserting was to relax, breathe, and take my time.  If something started hurting, i would stop, take it out and try again the next day. Eventually this process became easier and quicker and now my body is used to the cup. The Diva Cup should never hurt, it is very comfortable to wear when it is in properly, and you do not have to be concerned about leaking. The Diva Cup has taken away so much stress that comes along with periods. It also takes up very little space compared to all the tampons I normally stocked up on. I highly recommend doing some research on disposables products vs reusable products, and consider making the switch! It is so much better for your body, the earth and your wallet.

I bought the smallest size of The Bummis pads - the pantyliners. If you are passionate about the environment then this is a great step to take to reduce your waste! They are a little thicker than many pantyliners as there is a snap at the bottom which goes around the crotch of your underwear so they stay in place. The small size of The Bummis does not feel too thick,  the cotton makes it very comfortable. It simply feels like a small extra layer of underwear, as long as there is not too much moisture in the liner. I like pairing the panty liners with my Diva Cup on heavier days, and for some other days during the month. Generally, I will only wear one pantyliner in a day so I do no have to worry about changing in a public restroom and dealing with a wet bag. I think they would be a great thing to stock up on and I am hoping to fully make a switch from disposables to reusables.  If you do not want to fully commit to only using reusables they are a great product to try on days when you will only need one a day.

New to TTH: Spring Edition Part II

Yesterday we posted about some new products in our shop that are perfect for the spring/summer season and promised that more was yet to come! So without making you wait any longer...

Let's see a show of hands...who is ready for picnics in the warm sunshine? Of course these next two items are also useful for everyday school/work lunches, but I can't get warm weather out of my head so that's how I'm imagining them being put to use!

There has been a lot of buzz about these SmashBox Collapsible Lunchboxes which are perfect for on-the-go outings. If you are using them for indoor uses, they can go from freezer to microwave - but how perfect are they for picnic lunches? These boxes are collapsible which is great for storage, and they even come with a reusable "spork". What more do you need?

You have all heard me rant and rave about the Snack & Sandwich bags that we carry...but did you know we now have a third size to offer you? Colibri (formerly known as The Sling Sisters) came out with the Wide Snack Bag to add to the collection. These are perfect for packing wraps, or to hold utensils for your lunch. Of course they can be used for non-food-related things as well, such as a toothbrush and toothpaste or make-up accessories.

[You can find other Litterless Lunch options here...]

And how many of you are counting down till your first beach day?? Of course you all know about both the AMP and AppleCheeks swim diapers that we stock - but we now carry a third option...you know, just to make your decision that much tougher! Introducing the Bummis Swimmi, available in 3 different sizes and 5 fun prints. Your babe is sure to be the talk of the waterfront with their stylish bottom!

Bummis didn't stop there with their swim line, though. We have carried their sun hats for awhile already, but new to their line are these co-ordinating UV tees and tankinis! With a UPF rating of 50 and specially woven fabric to offer natural protection, these are some beach attire items you can really get on board with!

So there you have it! Yet another amazing selection of BRAND NEW products that you can find at Tiny TreeHugger.

**And don't forget that not only can you order online [as always]...BUT we are now open Tuesdays 10am-6pm and Wednesdays-Saturday 10am-3pm [CLOSED Sundays & Mondays] at our new storefront in Winnipeg! Find us at 230-600 St. Anne's Road in the Seine River Professional Building on the second floor.**

you can run...but you can't hide!!

How sweet is this ad for The Potty Pant by Bummis? Totally sweet! You know what else is sweet? We now stock these in our shop!

True story!

So how do the Bummis Potty Pants differ from cloth diapers? They're the perfect in-between 'pant' when your child no longer needs the thick absorbancy of a full diaper but where you still get the peace of mind that a mess won't be made wherever you go when you're in the first stages of potty training...because, as we all know - accidents happen!

Here are some special features of the Potty Pant:

  • Very trim – can easily be worn under clothing. No fluffy bums here!
  • Looks like underwear – let your little one feel like a big kid! Easy on, easy off.
  • Accidents? No problem. Two hidden absorbent layers where it counts. One layer of long loop cotton terry and one layer of microfiber. Training takes practice!
  • Soft lining made of natural cotton-hemp fabric for maximum comfort and to allow for that helpful sensation of wetness.
  • Outer layer of waterproof fabric prevents leaks.
  • Stretchy lightweight side panels make for a trimmer fit, ultimate comfort and greater adjustability. Will accommodate wee ones of all sizes – from skinny minis to chunky monkeys!
  • Different sizes allow for a perfect fit. Most kids will potty train within a few months and will probably wear the same size throughout the process.

Available in Pistachio Dot, White, and Denim Dot AND they come in 4 sizes - ranging from
Small [18-25lbs] to X-Large [35lbs and up].

Do YOU have a child nearing this daunting [yet exciting] time? You can run from it...but you can't hide - at least not forever! Why not give these bad-boys a try and just say "yes" to the process!

Good luck!!
