I started off with a Rockin' Baby pouch sling, because I loved the concept of an adjustable sling and the beautiful patterns. However, it quickly became apparent that no matter how much I liked the sling, my son did not. He hated the cradle position for newborns, so that was a no-go. Hopefully as he gets bigger, and can sit upright in the sling, he'll like it more - I'm not giving up on it yet!
Next we tried a wrap. These had always intimidated me (what do you do with all that fabric!?!), but after a few tries, I got the hang of it. Tying it in front of a mirror really helped! I found it to be very comfortable - no straps or buckles digging into me, and his weight was evenly distributed. And my son - he loved it. He could be upright and close to me - just what he wanted. So we found success with the Sleepy Wrap.
Recently we took a vacation to Florida, and it came in so handy. We don't have a double stroller, so we put our 2-year old daughter in the stroller, and I carried our son in the wrap while we were running around the airport. I kept him in there for the flight, and he was so content that he barely made a peep. *Side note - carrying your baby in a wrap gets you lots of attention!! I couldn't believe the number of people who commented on it.
My daughter (aka the little mommy) has also been converted to babywearing. She sees me carrying around her brother, and asks to carry her baby like that too. It's very cute. :)
So, I encourage you to give babywearing a try - or even a second try! It may take some time to find out what works for you, but when you find it, it can be so rewarding. If you're unsure of where to start, contact Pam J and she can help you determine which style of carrier could be right for you and your baby.
I know exactly what you mean about the comments once you start babywearing.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I spent the afternoon at the mall with my 3 year old son, and my new baby girl. We have a Sit 'n Stand stroller, but, let's be honest, that is mostly for the car seat, diaper bag and the like. Babies prefer to be carried!
After we were there for a little while, she started to get fussy. I took her out of the car seat and popped her into my fitted sling, where she was much happier. What a difference! When we were pushing her around in a stroller, we never got a second glance from the crowd. But once she was up in the sling? Comments and smiles from so many passers-by, asking how old she was, or where we got the sling... I think people are just drawn to a baby who is cuddled and content in a carrier!
I couldn't survive without my sleepywrap! I have a two year old & a newborn so I have to have my hands free too. I liked my sling better when my son was bigger to use for side carries. Found you via Indie Biz by the way. :)
